Restart, Refresh, Rewind

Hey you guys! I know I have been absent for a while now and yep, I have been kidnapped by work and I have been in and out of the hospital a while now. Anyway, I am back and hopefully for good this time.

In my absence I never forgot art, so as a reparation gift and to make up for the absence, I am presenting the following video.

I will be restarting my VLOG and youtube channel as well as this blog and update my art here more. I do hope that you can support me once again.

The video below is my painting of Jiroutachi of Touken Ranbu. Love the character style and yes, he’s a guy. But he’s just so pretty! Hope you enjoy

Featured Artist: Blue Prince

BlueprinceStarting this month, I will be featuring favorite deviants to give props to the amazing artists I discover online. This month I am starting with a guy who truly is a humble, and amazing artist who really shows that it is not the material that matter but who holds the material that matters.

I found him in facebook, we became friends through a drawing group. We were both Filipino and I was initially impressed by his manga art. Then, I found out that he does realism and that just wowed me. I was so impressed that I requested him to do an art for me and he did so willingly. He is a dedicated artist and what really struck me was his humility and simplicity even when people praise his art.

The Artist

His name is Marc John Israel aka Blue Prince 312,  23 years old from Tubigon, Bohol, Philippines. He only finished high school since they were poor. He got started with art at a very young age, when he was young, they had a school project and he drew something, but it was so good that no one believed that he drew it so he quit art for a while. During 4th grade, his teacher gave him a notebook with the Beatified Pedro Calunsod as the cover. He copied it and gave it to his dad as a present – that was his first portrait. He started drawing again after he met Ramilo Bustalinio, a good friend and an artist himself and this guy encouraged him to draw again. And finally during his junior year in High School his Drafting professor noticed his work and said:

Kayong lahat! Tumingin kayo dito!

Translation:  Everyone! Look here! This is a work of an eagle, with one flap of their wings he can go far. Unlike you little Maya Birds, you need to flap your wings many times to get to the tree. REMEMBER THAT!

This inspired Blue Prince to do better and to draw more and learn more to perfect his art.

On His Art

270033_498674036820281_1018679846_nHis main mediums are pencils, latex paint and wax crayons. Lately he has been diving into the world of oil and acrylic painting. I was impressed that he was using ordinary wax crayons to do his art. He said that he learned after he got a box of 64 Crayons from a teacher who asked him to illustrate some story books for him.

He never had formal training, he said. He only learned from experience and used crayons gently to create his work.

I couldn’t believe it actually when he had created the following art with CRAYONS.

enrique_iglesias_by_blueprince312-d66qf4rImpressive?! It sure is. He does this art to help his family too.  He works as a simple artist to provide for his family. And that inspires him. He also has a goal to become better and better. He also has fun in what he does so it really is a dream job for him. He advises everyone to just have fun and to keep on going with their passion for art.

I believe he really shows that its not the materials but the passion that makes the art. He makes art from the simplest of materials and everything he does seems like a masterpiece. He is truly an inspiration.

Blue Prince does commissions.  Contact him in his facebook : https://www.facebook.com/blueprince312

Marikit Studios Site~!

Be warned.  This site is not for the faint hearted. This is a sketchblog of a spazzy alien artist named Marikit who is attempting to create a new universe of her own through art.

Alright, seriously.

Welcome! I finally got around to making this blog. I have been thinking of making an art blog for a long time but never really got around to it. (aside from the one at DA) I wanted one specifically to host some of the new tutorials I will be making and the characters I am making for a future Manga that I am doing with Sai.  This blog will also hold my notes on new techniques I discover, feature artists I love and things that I find interesting.

Marikit Studios started about 2 years ago when I started taking art seriously again. It had been a hobby of mine for a long time but it never had a formal home on the web aside from Deviantart.  But as I got better, I also decided to create a label for myself and I am hoping to leave an impression on the people who see my art.

I am self-taught. Meaning, no formal training (aside from art class in grade school).  I am not a professional and so, everything here in this blog is done through self-discovery. I hope you join me in my journey to improve my art. Don’t be afraid to ask me questions, talk to me and even critique me so I can learn more!

Thank you and I hope you follow this blog!
